Reasons to get married in Mexico.
One of the countries that has stolen my heart is undoubtedly Mexico. As a wedding photographer I have been able to shoot several Mexican weddings. Moreover, I have been lucky enough to go there three times and I will come back many more times. Accordingly, each time I have discovered new places that have fascinated me. Why I think it is an ideal destination to get married because after all, it is a country full of culture, history and natural beauty. It gives you the opportunity to have a traditional wedding, a beach ceremony or a wedding full of history and culture. Without a doubt this country offers many options for all tastes. In this new post you will see what a great option it can be so I want to tell you some of the reasons to get married in Mexico.

-Romantic destinations: The first and most important reason is that there is a wide range of places to choose from to find the perfect place for your wedding. From paradisiacal beaches to also colonial towns and magical villages. Altogether, they all have something special to bring to a wedding.
- Caribbean and Pacific beaches: Places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Los Cabos, are perfect for beachfront weddings. The white sand, the turquoise water of the Caribbean and the incredible golden sunsets create a very romantic atmosphere.
- Colonial cities: San Miguel de Allende, Merida and Oaxaca offer a perfect combination. So much history, architecture and beauty. It gives an elegant and traditional touch to get married in a hacienda or an old church.
- Magical towns: Mexico has many magical towns that offer intimate and culturally rich settings, such as Valle de Bravo, Tequila, Tepoztlán and Pátzcuaro. They also offer unique natural landscapes, such as waterfalls, cenotes and jungles.
- CDMX itself : Mexico City has that big capital city charm with the possibility of many perfect wedding venues.
Getting married in San Miguel de Allende or Oaxaca
Certainly of the most beautiful places to get married in Mexico I can definitely recommend San Miguel de Allende. With its historic centre full of buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. As I have noted, they are so well preserved that you won’t know where to look as you wander through the cobbled streets. There are tree-lined courtyards and houses with sumptuous interiors. Filled with galleries and boutiques, it is a cultural paradise.
Especially I recommend you visit Casa de Sierra Nevada belonging to Belmond Hotel, on its terrace is the Tunki Rooftop by Handshake. A cocktail bar with the best views of the city and the friendliest staff in the world. Have one of the most delicious cocktails you’ve ever tasted watching the sunset and you’ll never want to leave. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico.
At the same time, Oaxaca is another city that will steal your heart in Mexico. It is in the centre of Mexico and is known for its colonial buildings, many of which are made of green volcanic rock. In the centre of the city is the Zócalo square with the Palacio de Gobierno. The plaza Alameda de Leon is located in front of the beautiful facade of the Oaxaca Cathedral. This is where many colourful and musical weddings are celebrated.
Furthermore, Oaxaca has been a gastronomic capital and for the beauty of its streets and architecture as well as its people you will want to get married there. It is close to Puerto Escondido, one of the best beaches, a paradise to enjoy before and after with your guests or your partner.

-Mexican culture and hospitality : The warmth and hospitality of its people is one of the most attractive aspects of getting married in Mexico. Mexicans are some of the most polite, friendly and cheerful people I have ever met. This undoubtedly makes any wedding a celebration full of life because of the people that will be around.
In addition, the cultural richness of the country makes weddings unique and meaningful. Mexican traditions, such as mariachi, folkloric dance or the lazo ceremony, can all be incorporated to give your wedding a special touch.

-Mexican gastronomy: We can say for sure that food is a key element in the reasons to get married in Mexico. If Mexico is famous for anything, it is for its diverse and delicious gastronomy. A wedding menu in Mexico can include everything. From traditional dishes such as tacos, mole, tamales and cochinita pibil to gourmet options with international influences.
And if that wasn’t enough, Mexico is the birthplace of tequila and mezcal, two perfect drinks to toast a wedding. When I was in Oaxaca, the birthplace of mezcal, we went to factories and did tastings. They explain everything to you perfectly and it’s wonderful to make that visit. The Mexican cocktail bar also offers refreshing and creative options, such as margaritas, mezcalitas, palomas and cocktails with tropical fruits. I have had the opportunity to go to many cocktail bars and the offer and quality they have is incredible. In every city there is a great level and they will surprise you without a doubt.

There are options for all budgets, from luxurious weddings in five-star resorts to intimate ceremonies in small boutique hotels.

There is a wide range of professional wedding planners, florists, make-up artists, hairdressers and dress designers that guarantee a perfect wedding. This facilitates the organisation and allows the bride and groom to enjoy their day without any worries.
The level of professionalism of the wedding planners is one of the best in the world and they will make sure you have the perfect wedding you always wanted. Do not hesitate to contact them explaining your ideas and tastes. They will know how to guide you and help you.
Reasons to get married in Mexico
Many places in Mexico as well as in Mallorca offer symbolic ceremonies for foreign couples. This way there is no need for legal formalities in the country. Afterwards, the couple can have the civil marriage in their country of origin or it can be done beforehand of course.
Even so, as I have looked it up, getting married in Mexico is relatively simple for both Mexican citizens and foreigners. There are two types of legally recognised weddings:
- Civil marriage: This is the only legally valid marriage. For foreigners, requirements include passport, birth certificate, medical exams and some additional documents, depending on the state.
- Religious wedding: The most common in Mexico is the Catholic wedding, which requires a pre-marital course and ecclesiastical documents. However, weddings of other religions or symbolic ceremonies are also possible. There are many Indian weddings for example.

-Ideal destination for guests: Getting married in Mexico is not only a special experience for the bride and groom, but also for the guests. Many couples take advantage of being in Mexico and organise a destination wedding. The celebration lasts several days and includes activities such as excursions, themed dinners and beach parties.
Guests can enjoy many tourist activities before and after the wedding. Visit archaeological sites (Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan), cenotes, snorkel in the reefs of Cozumel. Also explore the markets and museums of Mexico City.

-Honeymoon in the same place: Another advantage and one of the best reasons to get married in Mexico is that you can have your honeymoon in the same country. Destinations like the Riviera Maya for example offer romantic and magical experiences.
It is very common that many couples choose to stay a few days after the wedding and explore different places within Mexico. This saves time and money and allows the couple to enjoy their first trip together without too many complications. There are paradisiacal places for that romantic honeymoon.

-Diversity of ceremonies and rituals: Mexico is a country where tradition and modernity live side by side, so you can choose from a wide variety of ceremonies:
-Traditional Mexican weddings: With elements such as the ribbon, the arras and mariachi music.
-Symbolic ceremonies: Like Mayan weddings or spiritual rituals in cenotes and beaches.
-Themed weddings: Inspired by Mexican culture, such as Day of the Dead-influenced weddings or charro-style weddings.
-Luxury weddings: In five-star hotels with first-class service.

-Ideal weather almost all year round : Another of the many advantages is that Mexico has a varied climate, but in general it is good for weddings at any time of the year. The beaches offer sunshine and warmth most of the time, while the colonial cities and magical towns have cooler and more pleasant temperatures.
Undoubtedly the perfect months to get married are from November to May, avoiding the rainy season in some regions. However, even in wetter months, there will always be options for covered locations, plan B or alternative dates.

After all that I have told you, I can say that there is no shortage of advantages and reasons to get married in Mexico. It can be an unforgettable experience with its romantic landscapes, the friendliness of its people, the gastronomic and cultural richness. In addition to the affordable costs and the quality of the services. Whether you are looking for an intimate wedding or a grand celebration, Mexico offers options for all tastes and budgets.
And I think that being able to combine the wedding with a honeymoon in the same destination makes this decision even more convenient. It is very tempting for both you and your guests. Mexico is a magical place to say ‘I do’ with a celebration full of love and joy. I would love to share it with you and be able to take the best photos of your big day in Mexico.
