Gastronomy photographer in Mallorca.

Today I want to show you this gastronomy photography session I did for chef Esther P. As a gastronomy photographer in Mallorca I can tell you that this is a discipline that combines artistic creativity with technical rigor. I have sought to convey the essence of food through images capturing flavors with the camera.

In the world social networks and digital platforms dominate communication as we know. Gastronomic photography has become a key tool for restaurants and chefs. This way they can highlight their culinary creations.

Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok have made food images more important than ever. Consumers make decisions based on what they see, whether it’s choosing a restaurant or trying a new recipe. The immediacy of all of these platforms demands that photos be impactful and easily shareable. In addition, collaborations with influencers and content creators extend the reach of images, generating trends and building loyal audiences. There is great pressure for images to be perfect.

The purpose of the gastronomy photographer in Mallorca goes beyond showing an attractive dish, it is about evoking emotions and awakening the senses. I seek to capture the texture, color and freshness of the ingredients, as well as to convey the sensation of flavor and aroma. This is a challenge, as the latter are not visually perceptible.

I try to make it possible to feel and taste the juiciness of a steak, enjoy the smoothness of a dessert or perceive the warmth of a steaming soup just by looking at the photograph. This requires careful planning, attention to detail and knowledge of specific techniques that maximize the visual impact of the food.

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of a good gastronomy photographer in Mallorca. The wrong lighting can ruin a dish while the right lighting can make it irresistible. Natural light is usually preferred, as it brings out the true colors and gives an organic feel. Side or back lighting is often ideal for highlighting the texture and details of the dish. In controlled environments, artificial lights with diffusers allow for consistent results.

In addition, composition is key to creating a balanced image. Framing also plays a crucial role; an overhead shot is ideal for flat, colorful dishes. While a 45-degree angle can highlight the layers and heights of a dessert or hamburger.

Then there is the styling which is an inseparable part. You have to try to make the ingredients look fresh and appetizing at all times, this requires skill and experience. Some dishes, although delicious, are not photogenic by nature, which requires creativity to make them visually appealing without losing their essence.

Fresh foods have a very short shelf life when exposed to the camera and lights. An ice cream can melt, a salad can wilt and sauces can separate. I must work quickly to capture the dish at its best.

Gastronomic photography is constantly evolving. Like everything else, it is influenced by social networks and consumer preferences. We all see when we go to a restaurant how people take out their cell phones when the dishes are served. It is something so natural that nobody finds it strange. Food photography is something very common in networks.

There are even fashions and now for example simplicity has gained popularity, with images that highlight a single dish or ingredient, focusing on the essence of the food. Images of food with intense colors, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, are attracting attention on social networks, especially on Instagram.

I try sometimes as a gastronomy photographer in Mallorca not only to capture beautiful images, but also to tell stories. I really like to talk to the chef and find out as much as possible about him or her and his or her inspiration. A dish can represent the tradition of a region, the innovation of a chef or the passion of a cook.

It’s interesting to integrate things by connecting the viewer with the context behind the food. In this case it was chef Esther P. who is originally from Ecuador and has traveled all over the world studying and cooking. She has a lot of experience in important kitchens around the world and many stories to tell.

In the end I can tell you that food photography is a complex and constantly evolving art. It requires technical skills, artistic sensibility and a deep understanding of food. We are in a world where food is not only consumed, but also shared visually. Food photography has established itself as an indispensable tool to convey the richness and diversity of culinary experiences. So I hope you have enjoyed the photos in this post and the things I have told you about.

I really enjoyed watching Esther work in the kitchen and after taking all the pictures we were able to taste all the food together. It was delicious and it was certainly a very interesting day. The only thing I felt sorry for was the lobster that ended its life that day but it was well enjoyed by all.
